I know this is an old post, but it is reassuring to me. I have these odd almost seizure-like spasms in my right leg that roll up to my right shoulder when they're really bad. They are not painful and if someone presses on my legs it can make them stop. It has this odd almost electrical "buzzing" or internal tingling inside the muscle before it hits and it's almost always when I'm really tired. The doc thinks it's just an extension of my hyperreflexia and the reflexes are going berzerk. Is there anything out there that works for these jumpy spasms?

Only my second post.
Sixteen years ago I began having severe muscle spasms in my left forearm. A MRI showed evidence of demyelinating at C2-C3. Recent MRIs show no increase in the size of the lesion. The extremely painful spasms last about 25 seconds. For the first eight years, until I found the right neuro, no medication was suggested even though the frequency of episodes reached 25-30 per hour. I took early retirement because I could no longer sit at the computer 6-8 hrs a day.

Eight years into the process, the spasms began to attack my right ankle. After 8 years of being diagnosed with MS Probable, I was re-diagnosed as TM, and a drug therapy of Baclofen and Gabapentin began. Since 1998 I have tried every possible combination of varying dosage times and varying quantities of these drugs, leading me to my current best scenario of 80mg of Baclofen and 1200mg of Gapa, split every six hours.

Sorry for the long intro but here is my concern. Since the spasms began, the burning sensation has slowly moved from my left arm to include my left leg resulting in increased weakness and continued loss of use of left arm and hand. Gapa helps with frequency of spasms and helps to somewhat mask the pain. Until recently, spasms began in my left arm, then left leg, then right ankle. All micro seconds apart in sequence. Now that my right leg has the severe burning sensation from the ankle to above the knee, standing with too much weight on my right leg can trigger a spasm that reverses the sequence and winds up engulfing my left arm and leg.

Finally, here’s my question. While various combinations of Bac and Gapa help the spasms, NO medication has ever decreased the burning sensation in my right leg.

Tried Lyrica, – but had serious skin reaction.
Diazepam – Became extremely dizzy and foggy in the head.
Ampyra – Caused increased muscle spasms and increased my loss of balance.
Tizanidine – Increased tiredness and light headed.

I admit that I could not tolerate any of the four more than 4-8 days. Since it takes a minimum of four days for any change in drug quantities to effect change in my body, maybe I just needed to tough it out. It is just that when you are miserable most of the time, anything you take that makes you feel worse is suspect, and considered unsuitable.

Thank you for bearing with me. I welcome any thoughts, suggestions?
