15 mo baby lost milestones after prolonged febrile seizure

involves demyelination in the spinal cord and in the brain. The demyelination in the brain is different than a demyelinating attack from MS; the lesions are scattered and do not appear in the same pattern as those from an MS attack.

15 mo baby lost milestones after prolonged febrile seizure

My son was a perfectly alright baby till Jan 1012. When he was 1.3 yo, had a prolonged febrile seizure(of ~30 min), and was ventilated for 12 hours. Following this, he lost all the milestones. He deteriorated day by day, developed a stiff body and he was not responding to light/sound/pain/anything.... MRI showed cerebral atrophy ,EEG was very bad with epilepitc discharges and he was put on anti convulsants since then. With continuous therapy, he regained his skills one by one. He gained almost all the motor skills now and he can walk now ( which is not very stable), although his hand functioning is not that good. I think he understands whatever we say, but he doesn't talk. He makes some sounds, as if a 6 mo baby makes. He laughs when we make him happy. Slowly he is developing all emotions. Had anyone come across similar situations ? Will his cognitive skills be affected? How long does it usually take to regain speech?
